Why Beans
A background on my love of legumes
Hello Bean Supporters,
Nice to officially meet you. My name is Madeline, but something about bean supporter feels far more fitting. If this is your first introduction - welcome. If you know me from my socials- let me say I am so pleased to have you here.
In June of 2025 I set out on a mission- what if I only eat beans for 30 days. And so that is what I did. Only Beans was born, and in turn so was bean supporter.
You may be wondering Why?
In 2020 - I received a holiday gift from my manager at the time. It was a book titled: Find Your Why- A Practical Guide for Discovering Purpose for You and Your Team. Needless to say- I never read the book. “Practical” isn’t really in my vocabulary. I live a life of whimsy. This can be seen in my thrifted collection of tiny gold plated bowls, miniature silver spoons, or the layers of light linens I wear while cooking soups.
However, receiving that book did allow me to realize that my calling in life was far different from the financial models I was building at the time. I would walk to work (4 miles each way) with a backpack featuring 2-3 cans of pop top beans that I would eat at my desk.
Fast-forward five years, many things have change. I moved across the country, changed career paths, but my Why? has stayed the same- Beans.
There is still rarely a day that goes by where I am not eating beans at my desk. The difference is now they are rarely out of a can. My greatest joy comes from discovering new ways to use the humble legume. Cooking beans from dry, turning beans into waffles, cakes, breads, pesto, soups, cookie doughs, the list goes on and on. Basically, beans are much like our imagination: boundless, low cost, and good for you.
So here we are- on a bean blog. Where I hope to share with you my love of legumes and all they can do.
Thank you for being a bean supporter.
XoXo,
Bean Supporter
